All Total Grounds maintenance staff members must attend and pass a comprehensive in-house health and safety training program prior to commencing work. The curriculum includes task specific training as well as training on the use of each item of specialised equipment including the proper handling and use of chainsaws, lawn mowers, line trimmers and so on.

Our Arborists all undergo a ‘Safety at Height’ training program prior to commencing work. They are all required to perform an annual refresher training course.

Our grounds staff are required to complete three courses in addition to our mandatory Health and Safety training prior to commencing work. These include (i) Pesticide Run-off and Mitigation; (ii) Pesticide Applicator Training; and (iii) Introduction to Pruning Techniques.

Total group run monthly toolbox meetings with all grounds team. These sessions, which last approximately 30 minutes, are mandatory and cover a wide range of Health and Safety topics including (i) Chemical Safety (ii) Chainsaws and Line Trimmer Safety (iii) Manual Handling (iv) Slip, Trip Fall (v) Ladders and so on.

Additionally, all grounds staff are required to complete Site Safe Passport Training. Also, each team working on site always includes at least one staff member who has completed a Meditrain Workplace First Aid course.

Total Group maintain public liability insurance of $10m and have an ACC WSMP Tertiary accreditation.
